April 2009 - Guy Rooms, Chris Forbes join /k/

Well, Guy joined us already in January, but whatever ... Guy worked previously at Alcatel and Niko, and currently he is working together with Gerrit on applications for customer premises equipment. Chris is (yet) another ex-Acunian who subsequently worked in EMC's Belgian Development Group; initially he's working on better build and debug support for Mika in Eclipse, to make developing for Mika even easier than it already is. A warm welcome to both!

September 2008 - AOT compiler announced

Work has started on an ahead-of-time (AOT) compiler for Mika. See the MikaExtensions page on the Mika Wiki for more information.

November 2006 November 2006 - /K/ partners with Apogee

/K/ has entered into a partnership with Apogee Software, Inc., with a view to developing future products together. No details of the proposed joint products are yet being released, but one immediate result of the partnership is that /k/ will sell Apogee's Aphelion range of products in Europe. Apogee is a leading supplier of J9-based JRE and JDE products for the embedded market, and the partnership means that /k/ is now able to offer these products alongside of its own open-source offerings.

September 2005 - Mika goes open source

/k/ has decided to make Mika a fully open-source product, at least as far as the core VM and APIs are concerned. As of today, /k/'s modifications to the original Wonka source are covered by a BSD license ('modified' BSD if you're still living in the last century). There's still a lot of work to do in terms of setting up a public source repository, changing copyright statements, etc., so if you can't wait to get you hands on the source please write to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
